Moved to Rochester…
So we packed everything up in a uhaul trailer and drove from Southern California to Rochester, NY. We took our two beagles, Lulu and Scout, and our rabbit Mohammad. We also packed just about everything we could fit into the Uhaul trailer and towed it with my 4runner. We left very few material possessions behind, as most of the leavable things were sold in our series of yard sales and via E-bay (including my wedding dress!)
The drive was nothing special but nothing awful either. There were some good conversations had, and a few interesting sights that were seen. Otherwise, we mostly drove and slept. The beagles were great in the car, but had difficulty in the hotels from time to time. Our dayly routine consisted of 12 hours of driving, then staying in hotels at night. Our nightly routine consisted of unloading our rabbit and dogs to the room and getting the girls accustomed to their new home for the night. We joked that once we finally got to Rochester they would think their first night would be their last. :)
Fortunately, that is not the case! We are all together as one big happy family in our large, 1100 sq ft apartment. It feels more like a house, to be honest. The living arrangements are great. We are only missing a yard, but the wooded setting around the apartment makes for great walks for the beagles. The weather is turning around for the better (it snowed our first day here!), and we learn something new about Rochester every day. It’s a very interesting city, really. I have a wonderful job that I enjoy so far, and Alan has been busy with lots of contract work for web development related things. So far, so good.. I miss my friends and my family a whole lot, but it is great to know that I am not alone here, and Alan does a great job (for the most part) in reminding me of that daily.
More details to come if and when I feel like it. :)
